Cal Raleigh is batting .176 on the 2026 season — 1st percentile in contact across all of MLB — and yet he leads the majors in OPS (1.339) and slugging (.913) since August 21. The Seattle Mariners catcher isn’t riding a lucky streak: he owns a barrel rate in the 95th percentile, and when he makes contact, the ball knows about it.

A .176 average usually means a hitter is in serious trouble. For Raleigh, the low average isn’t a lie — he genuinely struggles to make contact.
