Carlos Sepulveda never made it to the big leagues, but the left-handed-hitting second baseman from Monclova, Mexico, has quietly built one of the more consistent bats in the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico. Through 21 games of the 2026-27 LMP season, Sepulveda is hitting .299 with 23 hits, 8 RBI and an .822 OPS for the Jaguares de Nayarit — and the numbers suggest he’s only getting better.

Background
Sepulveda signed with the Chicago Cubs organization and made his professional debut in High-A with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in 2017, hitting .196 over 28 games. He worked his way through the system, posting a .243 average in 112 games at High-A in 2019, then a .213 mark in 73 games at Double-A with the Tennessee Smokies in 2021. His final stop in affiliated ball was Triple-A Iowa in 2022, where he hit .245 in 24 games before his time in the minors came to a close.
The numbers in the minors were modest, but Sepulveda never stopped playing. He turned to winter ball — and that’s where things clicked.
Finding His Game in the LMP
Over the last four LMP seasons, Sepulveda has been one of the more reliable contact hitters in the league. He hit .303 with a .792 OPS in 66 games for the Yaquis de Obregón in 2023-24, then .304 with an .849 OPS in 58 games for the Sultanes de Monterrey in 2024-25. Last winter with Nayarit he batted .296 with a .797 OPS across 67 games (71 hits, 20 RBI).
Now in 2026-27, he’s already topped those OPS marks through just 21 games. The trajectory is hard to ignore.

What Makes Him Interesting
Left-handed hitters at second base are genuinely rare, and that alone gives Sepulveda a built-in edge in certain matchups. More than the novelty, though, it’s the consistency that stands out: four straight LMP seasons hitting above .295, each with an OPS north of .790. He’s not a power bat — one home run per season is the pattern — but as a contact-first, defensively sound second baseman, he’s exactly the kind of player winter league rosters are built around.
At 30, Sepulveda isn’t chasing a big-league dream so much as cementing a career. And by the look of his 2026-27 numbers, he’s doing exactly that.
