Background
Born on July 17, 1999, in Uriangato, Guanajuato, Escarrega has developed his entire professional career within the Mexican winter league circuit. While many players use the LMP as a stepping stone toward affiliated ball or the majors, Escarrega has committed fully to the winter league ecosystem — sharpening both his defensive craft and his bat season after season.
Professional Career
Escarrega’s LMP debut was a tough one. In 2023-24 with the Venados de Mazatlán, he managed just 3 hits in 13 games, batting .091. The following winter showed modest progress: 5 hits in 8 games for a .192 average. In 2025-26, still with Mazatlán, he appeared in 44 games and collected 17 hits, but his .185 average and .504 OPS reflected the ongoing grind of development at the catching position.
The current 2026-27 season has been a different story. After moving to the Cañeros de los Mochis, Escarrega is posting the best numbers of his career — a .257 average, 2 home runs, 6 RBI, and an .895 OPS through 12 games. That kind of offensive output signals a catcher who may finally be turning the corner.

Fun Fact
Escarrega is a true switch-hitter — a rare trait at the catching position. While he throws right-handed, his ability to bat from both sides gives him a tactical edge at the plate, letting him match up against pitchers regardless of handedness. It’s the kind of versatility that makes him a useful piece in any LMP lineup.
What to Watch
Four winters in, Escarrega is finally showing the offensive upside to match his defensive commitment. His .895 OPS with the Cañeros is a number worth paying attention to — and a reminder that some players simply need time and the right environment to click. LMP fans should keep an eye on him as the 2026-27 season rolls on.
