Eric Filia is heading back to Los Mochis — and he’s coming in as the best hitter in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico. The Cañeros confirmed his return on August 27 for the 2026-27 season, his fourth consecutive year with the club. He arrives with a .363 average, the 2025-26 LMP batting title in hand, and a question worth asking: how does a guy who didn’t hit a single home run all season become the best hitter in his league?
From .295 to .363: Three Seasons, Three Steps Up
When Filia first arrived in Los Mochis for the 2023-24 season, he hit .295. Solid, but nothing that turns heads. The next year he climbed to .329. Then in 2025-26 he finished at .363, pulling away from his nearest competitor by 16 points. Three seasons, three steps up, never once sliding back.
What makes that .363 even more interesting is the context: he did it over 63 regular-season games, with 280 plate appearances, 33 RBI, and 50 walks. And zero home runs. Not one. He becomes the third consecutive LMP batting champion to finish the season without leaving the yard, following Taiki Sekine of the Yaquis and Jasson Atondo of the Naranjeros.
Filia doesn’t need the long ball to dominate. His .917 OPS that season tells the full story: he doesn’t hit for power, but he gets on base consistently and he produces. For the Cañeros, having him in the lineup means someone is going to work the pitcher and someone is going to be on base when the middle-of-the-order bats come up.
The One Number That Complicates the Narrative
It’s not all clean. During the 2026 summer, Filia played for the Acereros de Monclova in the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol and his numbers dropped considerably: .241 average, no home runs, and just six RBI. He also had a brief stint with the Leones de Yucatán. His profile clearly plays better in winter ball than in the summer circuit, where the pitching mix and pace are different. That doesn’t take anything away from what he’s done in the LMP — the leagues are different, and Filia has proven that season after season in Los Mochis. But it’s a fair data point to keep in mind before assuming he arrives at his absolute peak.
The 11th Batting Champion in Cañeros History
With this return, Filia becomes the 11th player in Cañeros history to win an LMP batting title — not just a personal milestone, but an entry into a list that defines part of the Sinaloa club’s identity.
For 2026-27, Filia joins a foreign roster that already includes Mallex Smith, Dayson Croes, Daysbel Hernández, Danis Correa, and Konnor Ash — six confirmed players as spring training runs with 86 invited players on site. The season opens October 13, 2026, with the road pointing straight toward the 2027 Caribbean Series in Hermosillo, Sonora.
For a left-handed outfielder from California who turned 34 this year — drafted in the 20th round in 2016 by the Seattle Mariners and who posted a .314 average with a .409 OBP in the minors on his way to Triple-A — the LMP became the stage where his contact-first game finally gets the spotlight it deserves. Four years, same club, average going up every time. As long as that keeps happening, Los Mochis will keep him in green.
