Josh Jung: Career, Stats, and Everything You Need to Know
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Josh Jung is the Texas Rangers‘ third baseman and one of the steadiest pieces in their infield. Hitting .294 with an .802 OPS in 2026, Jung has locked down his spot in the lineup and is starting to look like the well-rounded player Texas always believed he could be. At 28, he’s still growing — and the numbers are backing that up.

Quick Facts

  • Full name: Josh Jung
  • Position: Third Base
  • Team: Texas Rangers
  • Jersey: #6
  • Bats / Throws: Right / Right
  • Height / Weight: 6’1″ / 214 lbs
  • Born: February 12, 1998 (age 28)
  • Hometown: San Antonio, TX
  • MLB Debut: September 9, 2022
  • Country: United States 🇺🇸

Background

Jung was born on February 12, 1998, in San Antonio, Texas — a city with deep baseball roots. He worked his way through the Rangers’ minor league system methodically, refining both his swing and his glove at third base before earning his MLB call-up on September 9, 2022. A right-handed hitter and thrower, Jung represents exactly the kind of prospect Texas built its future around: reliable defense at a premium position combined with real offensive upside.

Professional Career

Jung has spent his entire big-league career with the Rangers. His 2024 season — his first extended look at the majors — showed a player still finding his footing: .264 AVG, 7 home runs, 16 RBI, and a .719 OPS in 19 games. Solid contact, but the power hadn’t fully arrived yet.

2025 was a different story. Jung showed he could produce at volume, posting 14 home runs and 61 RBI — but his average dipped to .251 and his OPS slid to .684. More pop, less consistency. A classic power-contact tradeoff year.

In 2026, Jung has found the balance. His .294 average, 9 home runs, 35 RBI, 46 runs scored, and .802 OPS paint a picture of a more complete hitter — one who’s stopped sacrificing contact for power and is delivering both. Texas is counting on him as a core piece of their offensive order.

Career Stats at a Glance

  • 2026 — Texas Rangers: .294 AVG | 9 HR | 35 RBI | 46 R | .802 OPS | 1 SB
  • 2025 — Texas Rangers: .251 AVG | 14 HR | 61 RBI | 53 R | .684 OPS | 4 SB
  • 2024 — Texas Rangers: .264 AVG | 7 HR | 16 RBI | 19 R | .719 OPS | 4 SB

Awards and Recognition

Jung hasn’t yet collected major hardware — no MVP votes, no Gold Glove, no All-Star nod so far. But his steady development has put him firmly in the conversation among the better young third basemen in the American League. His glove and his improving bat are assets the Rangers are counting on for the long haul.

One Cool Detail

San Antonio has produced a notable number of big leaguers over the years, and Jung is one of its proudest exports. Playing for the Rangers means he’s representing his home state every time he takes the field — a connection that runs deeper than just geography.
