The Tigres del Licey opened the LIDOM 2026 season with a statement: a 12-2 blowout over the Leones del Escogido at Estadio Quisqueya. The headliners were exactly who Licey fans expected — Jesús Made and Kevin Alcántara, the two young Cubs prospects the Dominican fanbase has already crowned Los Menores 3.0.
Made’s Night: Power, Patience, and Damage
Made’s final line — 2-for-3 with a home run, one RBI, two runs scored, and two walks — doesn’t quite capture how complete his performance was. In a single game, he showed the three things MLB scouts track most closely in a young hitter: raw power, plate discipline, and the ability to hurt you in multiple ways. It’s the kind of line that makes a prospect file thicker.
Made is one of the Chicago Cubs’ most intriguing position prospects, and a LIDOM opener like this — at home, against the historic rival — is exactly the performance that feeds that organizational excitement.
Alcántara and the Generation Behind the Nickname
Kevin Alcántara also contributed offensively to complete Licey’s showcase. The outfielder, another Cubs prospect, is the other half of the duo that gave Los Menores 3.0 its name — a third wave of Dominican talent making noise in winter ball before the majors come calling full-time.
By the time the third inning was over, the game was essentially decided. Licey kept piling on runs and Escogido’s pitching staff never found an answer for either of them.
Why This Opening Night Matters for LIDOM 2026
The Dominican League is where MLB prospects test themselves against high-level competition before ascending. Dominating in LIDOM doesn’t guarantee big-league success, but it does prove a player can handle quality pitching, real pressure, and big moments. Made and Alcántara checked all three boxes on October 17.
There’s also the rivalry factor. Licey vs. Escogido is the oldest rivalry in Caribbean baseball. Starting the season with a 12-2 win at Quisqueya against your fiercest rival is a declaration of intent — not just a box score.
The real question now is whether Los Menores 3.0 can sustain this level over a full LIDOM season. Night one gave a very loud answer to night one.
