History

The Brewers came into being in 1968 when the Oakland Athletics moved to Milwaukee, bringing with them the history of a city that had already been home to the legendary Milwaukee Braves (1953-1965). That first chapter saw the rise of stars like Hank Aaron, who hit 755 home runs in his career and left an indelible mark on the franchise.

Through the 1970s and 1980s, Milwaukee established itself as a competitive Major League market. The team went through ups and downs but always kept the backing of a passionate fan base. In 2011, the arrival of Ryan Braun marked a turning point, carrying the Brewers to the playoffs and reviving interest in the city.

The 21st century has brought constant renewal. The arrival of Christian Yelich in 2018 injected elite offensive talent, while the development of prospects like Jackson Chourio promises to keep the team competitive in the years ahead.

Titles and honors

The Brewers won the 1957 World Series, when they still played in Milwaukee under the name Braves and had Hank Aaron on the roster. That title remains the franchise’s only World Series championship in its modern history.

At the division level, the team has won several conference and division titles, establishing itself as a regular contender in the National League Central. Its playoff appearances in 2011, 2018 and later years reflect the organization’s sustained competitiveness.

Key players

Hank Aaron is the most iconic figure in Brewers history, hitting 755 home runs and leaving a legacy that goes beyond baseball. Robin Yount, who spent his entire career with Milwaukee (1974-1993), is another historic idol who piled up more than 3,000 hits. In the modern era, Christian Yelich has been the face of the franchise, winning awards and taking the team to the top of the game.

William Contreras, the team’s catcher, represents the organization’s present and future with his offensive versatility. Jackson Chourio, a young prospect who has already debuted, is seen as the next cornerstone of the franchise, continuing the tradition of young talent that Milwaukee cultivates.

Milwaukee is known worldwide as the Beer Capital, home to legendary brands like Miller and Pabst, which makes the nickname Brewers perfectly organic for the city. The team leans into that identity in its marketing and fan culture, creating a unique connection between the sport and Wisconsin’s industrial heritage. American Family Field even offers one of the best beer experiences of any Major League ballpark.
