Pedro Ramírez is the Venezuelan second baseman who got his MLB call-up on May 23, 2026, joining the Chicago Cubs at just 22 years old. In his debut season, the Temblador native has already put up numbers worth paying attention to: a .295 batting average and an OPS of .772 — solid production for any rookie, let alone one still learning the big-league game.
Background
Born on April 1, 2004, in Temblador, Venezuela — a region with deep baseball roots — Ramírez developed into a switch-hitter early on, giving him a built-in advantage against both right- and left-handed pitching. He throws right-handed and plays second base, where his speed and footwork make him a natural fit. The Cubs identified his mix of contact ability, defensive instincts and offensive versatility, signed him and guided him through their minor-league system before finally bringing him to Wrigley in the spring of 2026.
Professional Career
Ramírez’s MLB debut marked the start of something real. In his 2026 rookie season with Chicago, he delivered across the board:
- .295 batting average
- .772 OPS
- 15 runs scored
- 14 RBI
- 1 home run
- 5 stolen bases
Those numbers tell the story of a player built on contact and consistency rather than power — and that fits exactly what Chicago needs up the middle. His switch-hitting ability is a genuine weapon in a modern lineup, letting managers deploy him without worrying about platoon matchups.

Awards & Milestones
Ramírez hasn’t collected individual hardware yet — he’s a rookie, after all — but a .295 average and five stolen bases in your first MLB season is a statement in itself. The Cubs organization sees him as a core piece of their middle-infield future, and if his trajectory holds, the awards conversation won’t be far off.

Fun Fact
Switch-hitters are rare, and Ramírez wears that skill like a badge. Growing up in Temblador — a Venezuelan town that has quietly sent several players to professional baseball — he honed both sides of his swing before most kids his age had figured out one. In today’s specialized bullpens and matchup-heavy managing, that ability to flip sides of the plate is worth more than ever.
