Randy Arozarena Is a Silver Slugger Finalist — and His Best Season Couldn't Have Come at a Better Time
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Randy Arozarena just put together the best season of his career, and the American League is paying attention. The Seattle Mariners outfielder has been named a 2026 Silver Slugger finalist — the award voted on by MLB managers and coaches that goes to the best hitter at each position. The numbers that got him there go well beyond the surface: 26 home runs, 79 RBI, 113 runs scored (the most in the entire AL), a .281/.381/.484 slash line, an OPS of .865, and a wRC+ of 151 — meaning he was 51% more productive than the average hitter. His 5.7 WAR translates to nearly six extra wins above a replacement-level player.

Why This Nomination Hits Different

Arozarena has been here before — he was a Silver Slugger finalist three times with Tampa Bay (2021, 2022, 2023) and never won. This is his fourth career nomination, but it’s the first time he’s showing up with a fully rounded season. The runs-scored title is the number that stands out most: 113 runs, leading all AL players. That figure speaks to consistency, on-base ability (OBP of .381), and a lineup that trusted him to set the table night after night.

There’s another layer that often gets overlooked: his numbers against left-handed pitching, historically a trouble spot for many right-handed hitters. In 2026, Arozarena hit .306 with a .954 OPS and 11 home runs in 198 at-bats against lefties, per Statcast. No obvious weakness — and coaches on the other side of the field saw it all season long.

The Mariners didn’t waste any time celebrating: «More accolades for Raaaaandy 🔱 @RandyArozarena has been named a 2026 AL Silver Slugger Finalist!» they posted on X on November 5.

A Packed AL Outfield Race

The Silver Slugger is voted on by managers and coaches across MLB — they can’t vote for players on their own team — and the AL outfield category features nine finalists, with only three taking home the award. Among Arozarena’s competition: Mike Trout, Cody Bellinger, Riley Greene (the defending winner from 2025), and Wilyer Abreu of the Boston Red Sox. This is not a soft field.

The Statcast Numbers Behind the Season

  • 670 plate appearances
  • 26 home runs / 79 RBI / 113 runs scored
  • AVG: .281 | OPS: .865
  • xwOBA: .348 (83rd percentile in MLB)
  • Average exit velocity: 90.8 mph (80th percentile)
  • Barrel rate: 8.1%
  • Hard-hit rate: 43.5%
  • Average bat speed: 70.9 mph

When a Trophy Is Also a Contract Argument

The timing of this announcement is no small thing. Arozarena is entering free agency at the end of this season, and Seattle has already extended a qualifying offer of $23.15 million — he has until November 17 to decide whether to accept or test the open market. That same date is when the Silver Slugger winners are revealed.

A finalist with 113 runs scored, an .865 OPS and 5.7 WAR is a different product on the free-agent market than a guy whose résumé only shows home runs and RBI. Individual awards aren’t just applause — they’re context for contract negotiations. If he wins, he’d enter the market as the certified best hitter at his position in the AL. If he doesn’t, he still walks away with the most complete season of his major league career. Analysts project he could land a deal in the range of three years and $60 million. Either way, teams evaluating him have plenty to look at.
