Reynaldo Rodriguez: Bio, Stats and Career at Charros de Jalisco

Reynaldo Rodriguez is a 40-year-old Colombian first baseman from Cartagena who has spent more than a decade competing in Caribbean winter leagues and the minor leagues. Currently suiting up for the Charros de Jalisco in the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico (LMP), he is one of the most consistent hitters in the circuit — and his .459 average through nine games in 2026-27 is making sure nobody forgets his name.

Background

Rodriguez grew up in a region of Colombia with a genuine baseball culture, even if a direct path to the majors was never on the map. His career took him through the North American minor league system before he found a permanent home in Caribbean winter ball, where he has built a reputation as a disciplined, professional hitter year after year. He never reached the big leagues, but his time in Triple-A and winter circuits established him as a respected professional. His right-handed swing comes with a patient approach — the kind of strike-zone awareness that shows up in his walk totals season after season.

Professional Career

His standout moment in the minors came in 2019 with the Tigres de Quintana Roo, where he put up eye-opening numbers: a .367 average, 24 home runs, and a 1.157 OPS in 63 games. That was his best Triple-A season and a clear signal that his offensive tools were legitimate. Earlier stops included Rochester Red Wings (2016), where he hit .220 in 50 games, and Fort Myers Miracle (High-A), where he slashed .308 with 2 home runs in just 4 games.

Since 2023, Rodriguez has been a fixture in the Charros de Jalisco lineup. In 2024-25 he appeared in 63 games, hitting .260 with 7 home runs and 49 RBI. The following season, 2025-26, was a step up: .347 in 55 games with 70 hits, 4 home runs, 30 RBI, and an .886 OPS — a combination of power and plate discipline that made him one of Jalisco’s most reliable bats.

2026-27 Season: On Fire Early

Through the first nine games of the current LMP campaign, Rodriguez is in a different stratosphere: .459 average (17-for-37), 1 home run, 10 RBI, and a 1.230 OPS. Small sample size, sure — but the trend lines from recent seasons make it hard to dismiss. His ability to read pitchers and stay disciplined in the zone is what keeps him producing at 40.

Season-by-Season Stats

  • 2026-27 LMP · Charros de Jalisco: 9 G | .459 AVG | 1 HR | 10 RBI | 1.230 OPS | 17 H
  • 2025-26 LMP · Charros de Jalisco: 55 G | .347 AVG | 4 HR | 30 RBI | .886 OPS | 70 H
  • 2024-25 LMP · Charros de Jalisco: 63 G | .260 AVG | 7 HR | 49 RBI | .736 OPS | 59 H
  • 2023-24 LMP · Águilas de Mexicali: 66 G | .257 AVG | 4 HR | 24 RBI | .663 OPS | 65 H

Fun Fact

At 40 years old, Reynaldo Rodriguez is still hitting above .300 in back-to-back winter seasons. In a sport that tends to push veterans aside, his longevity is a quiet lesson in discipline and knowing the strike zone. For the younger players in the LMP, he is exactly the kind of professional you study — not just watch.
