Background
Simon grew up in La Romana, one of the Caribbean’s most storied baseball regions. He worked his way through the Pirates’ minor-league system, honing his defense at second base and refining the switch-hitting ability he developed back home in the Dominican Republic. His MLB debut on April 21, 2025, marked the payoff of that long climb through the minors.
Professional Career
In his 2025 rookie season, Simon posted a .234 batting average with 7 RBI, 10 runs scored, 1 stolen base, and an OPS of .572. The numbers reflect exactly what you’d expect from a young player getting his first real taste of big-league pitching — a work in progress, but one with a clear role in Pittsburgh’s infield.
His 2026 campaign has been rougher offensively, with an OPS of .500 and limited production at the plate through his appearances so far. The Pirates, however, continue to run him out at second base, leaning on his defensive reliability and the flexibility that comes with having a switch-hitter in the lineup.

Awards & Records
Simon hasn’t collected any individual MLB hardware yet — no Silver Slugger, no Gold Glove, no All-Star nod. His career is still in its early chapters, and the focus right now is purely on development, both at the plate and in the field.
Fun Fact
Switch-hitters are genuinely rare in professional baseball, and Simon is one of them. The ability to bat from both sides of the plate — developed during his years coming up in the Dominican Republic — gives Pittsburgh’s coaching staff an extra tactical tool when matching up against left- and right-handed pitchers.
