History
The Athletics were born in 1901 in Philadelphia, becoming one of the founding members of the American League. Through their early decades they dominated American baseball, winning championships and establishing themselves as a powerhouse. The franchise moved to Kansas City in 1955 and then to Oakland in 1968, where it enjoyed its golden era in the 1970s.
In 1996, the Athletics relocated to Sacramento, opening a new chapter in the California city. Since then they have had uneven seasons, alternating competitive stretches with rebuilds. The team plays at Sutter Health Park, its home since arriving in Sacramento.
Titles and honors
The Athletics won three straight Major League championships in 1972, 1973 and 1974 during their Oakland era, with stars like Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter.
