History
The Giants’ story begins in New York in 1883 as the Gothams, before adopting the name that would make them legendary. For decades they dominated the National League with figures like Christy Mathewson and won multiple pennants in the classic era of baseball. In 1954 they moved to San Francisco, beginning a new era on the West Coast.
The team experienced a spectacular resurgence starting in 2010, winning three World Series titles in five years (2010, 2012 and 2014). Those teams, led by Brian Wilson as closer and the offensive punch of Edgar Rentería, Cody Ross and Pat Burrell, turned San Francisco into a city of champions. Pitcher Tim Lincecum, with his distinctive long hair and golden arm, became a symbol of that winning generation.
Oracle Park, which opened in 2000, replaced the legendary Candlestick Park and has become one of the most beautiful ballparks in the Major Leagues, overlooking San Francisco Bay with the famous splash hit into the water as a team tradition.

The Giants won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014, the only three-title dynasty of the 21st century in the National League. Among the historic idols, Willie Mays stands out — the all-time legend who spent much of his career in San Francisco and is considered one of the greatest players ever. Juan Marichal, the Dominican who revolutionized pitching with his high leg kick, won 238 games with the Giants. In the modern era, Barry Bonds set the all-time single-season home run record with 73 in 2001.
