Carson Williams is a 23-year-old shortstop from San Diego, California, who got his first taste of the big leagues on August 22, 2025 with the Tampa Bay Rays. His offensive game is still very much a work in progress, but the tools are there — 5 home runs and a .172 AVG in his debut season show a young player just getting started.

Background
Williams grew up in San Diego, a city with deep baseball roots, and worked his way up through Tampa Bay’s minor league system as a right-handed hitter and thrower. After putting in the developmental work in the Rays’ organization, he earned his spot on the big-league roster in August 2025 — the official start of his MLB career.
Professional Career
In his 2025 debut season with Tampa Bay, Williams slashed .172/.—/— with 5 home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored, and an OPS of .573. The batting average reflects the adjustment every young hitter faces, but the power output signals real upside for a player still finding his footing.
The 2026 season brought steeper challenges. Williams’ numbers dipped considerably — a .108 AVG, 1 home run, 6 RBI, and an OPS of .370. It’s a rough stretch, but not an unfamiliar one for prospects navigating the big-league learning curve. The bat speed and raw power that made him a prospect haven’t disappeared; the consistency just isn’t there yet.
Winter Ball: Águilas Cibaeñas (LIDOM 2026-27)
To keep working through his struggles, Williams headed to the Dominican Republic to play for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the 2026-27 LIDOM season. Through three games, he’s gone hitless (.000 AVG, 0 HR, 0 RBI), though his OPS sits at .375, suggesting he’s drawing some walks. The winter league stint is about rebuilding rhythm and confidence — two things he’ll need heading into 2027.
