Jonathan Aro is a Dominican right-hander from La Vega who has spent more than a decade bouncing between the majors and Caribbean winter leagues. He made his MLB debut on June 25, 2015 with the Boston Red Sox, and while his time in the big leagues was brief, he has built a durable career as a reliever where it matters most — back home.
Background
Born October 10, 1990, in La Vega, Dominican Republic, Aro came up through the Dominican pipeline that has produced so many big-league arms. Boston called him up in 2015, and he became another name on the long list of Dominican talent to reach the majors.
MLB Career
Aro’s time in the big leagues was short but real. In 2015 with the Red Sox, he threw 10.1 innings, posting a 6.97 ERA with 8 strikeouts and a 1.84 WHIP. The following year, Seattle gave him a look, but he only logged 0.2 innings with a 3.00 WHIP before his MLB chapter closed.

Winter Ball: Where Aro Really Shines
After the majors, Aro found his groove in winter leagues — and he never really left. His most impressive recent stretch came in the 2024-25 LIDOM season with the Tigres del Licey, where he was a bullpen anchor: 27 appearances, 2.92 ERA, 3 wins, 2 saves, and 13 strikeouts in 24.2 innings. Consistent, reliable, exactly what a manager wants in a late-inning arm.
The 2025-26 campaign was rougher — a 11.25 ERA in 4 innings with Licey — but he bounced back with a stint in the Mexican Pacific League with the Yaquis de Obregón, tossing 2 clean innings. Now with the Águilas Cibaeñas in 2026-27, he’s back to his best: 0.00 ERA across 3 appearances, with 1 win, 1 save, and 5 strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
