Background
Vazquez was born and raised in Mérida, Yucatán, and broke into professional baseball in 2018 when he signed with the Chicago Cubs organization. In his debut with the DSL Cubs 1, he appeared in four games and posted a 2.25 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 20 innings — an encouraging first look at a young lefty with solid command and relief upside.
Since then, he’s worked his way through the minor leagues and the Mexican Pacific circuit, sharpening his arsenal and building a track record in competitive winter ball.
Professional Career
Vazquez has spent the last several LMP seasons with two franchises: the Yaquis de Obregón and the Algodoneros de Guasave. His best campaign before this one came in 2024-25 with Obregón, when he put up a 1.95 ERA, 33 strikeouts in 37 innings across 13 appearances — firmly establishing himself as a dependable late-inning option.
The 2025-26 season was a step back. He split time between Obregón (13 games, 4.02 ERA, 19 K in 15.2 IP) and Guasave (7 games, 5.89 ERA, 18 K in 18.1 IP), struggling to find consistency with either club.
The 2026-27 season has been a different story. In four outings with Guasave, Vazquez owns a 3.10 ERA, 12 strikeouts in 20.1 innings and one win — a meaningful rebound that shows the command issues from last year may be behind him.
Winter Ball Snapshot
In the LMP, Vazquez is averaging 5.3 strikeouts per nine innings this season. The jump from a 5.89 ERA in 2025-26 to 3.10 in 2026-27 isn’t just a number — it reflects a pitcher who has done real work between seasons and arrived more prepared.
