Background
Pozo built his game from the ground up in the Venezuelan minor league system, developing the defensive tools that define elite catchers. Maracaibo has long been a hotbed for catching talent in Venezuela, and Pozo fits squarely in that tradition. As a right-handed hitter and thrower, he profiles as the modern utility catcher: someone whose real value lives in game management and defense, not the box score.
Professional Career
Pozo has suited up for multiple organizations during his MLB journey. His 2026 stint with the Baltimore Orioles was his most productive stretch at the plate, where he hit .222 with 1 home run, 2 RBI, and a .756 OPS — a number that reflects genuine offensive punch for a catcher in a limited sample.
Later that same season he joined the St. Louis Cardinals, where he batted .242 with 5 RBI, though his OPS dipped to .515 in that run. Combined across both stops in 2026, Pozo slashed .238/.566 with 1 HR and 7 RBI, reinforcing his profile as a utility catcher who earns his roster spot with defense and leadership rather than power numbers.

Awards and Recognition

Fun Fact
Maracaibo has produced a long line of catchers who’ve made it to the big leagues, and Pozo is the latest in that tradition. His path to the majors reflects the patience and grind that the catching position demands — where reading pitchers, blocking balls in the dirt, and keeping a staff together matter just as much as what you do in the batter’s box.
