Dodgers Hello Kitty Night Returns August 12: Blind Box, 5 Characters, 40,000 Fans Trying Their Luck

The Los Angeles Dodgers are hosting their second Hello Kitty and Friends Night of the 2026 season on Wednesday, August 12 at Dodger Stadium, with first pitch against the Kansas City Royals set for 7:10 p.m. PT. The headliner: a Sanrio blind box plush dressed in official Dodgers gear — uniform and blue LA cap — for the first 40,000 fans through the gates.

The Blind Box: Five Characters, One Random Pick

This giveaway is a step up from April’s Hello Kitty Night, which handed out a Hello Kitty Dodgers hoodie to the first 40,000 fans. Tonight’s blind box is a sealed package — you won’t know which character you got until you open it. The five possibilities are:

  • Hello Kitty
  • Cinnamoroll
  • Kuromi
  • My Melody
  • Pompompurin

One plush per ticketed fan, while supplies last, distributed at the gate. That’s straight from the Dodgers’ official second-half promotions bulletin published on MLB.com.

One key note if you’re buying on the resale market: the giveaway goes to the first 40,000 fans in the building, not every ticket holder. Tickets purchased through third-party platforms like StubHub typically don’t guarantee the promotional item. If the blind box is the goal, get there early — and buy direct from the team when possible.

Why the Dodgers Have Two Hello Kitty Nights in One Season

The April 13 edition — where Hello Kitty threw out the ceremonial first pitch to infielder Hyeseong Kim — made it obvious that one night wasn’t going to cut it. Demand was so strong that the Hello Kitty TikTok account actually announced the second date before the Dodgers did officially, riding the wave of post-April social buzz.

That makes 2026 the first season the Dodgers have put two Hello Kitty Nights on the calendar. With a capacity of 56,000, Dodger Stadium is the largest stage in the league for this kind of promotion — a scale very few ballparks can match.

And the Dodgers aren’t alone. At least five MLB franchises have run Sanrio-themed nights in 2025 and 2026: the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners (also with two dates), Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Texas Rangers. What started as a niche promo has become a league-wide strategy.

The Business Logic Behind the Blind Box

IP-themed nights — events built around entertainment licensing — serve two purposes at once. The obvious one: they pull in fans who wouldn’t normally buy a ticket to a Tuesday regular-season game, including families, casual fans, and collectors. The subtler one: the blind box format keeps the event alive well past the final out.

When fans don’t know which character they’re getting, trades happen in the stands, photos flood social media, and a secondary market pops up on eBay the next morning. The August 12 game against Kansas City ends in the ninth inning. The plush conversation lasts for days.

That’s exactly why teams are leaning into this format in 2026. For the Dodgers, the game starts long before first pitch. Getting the blind box means being among the first 40,000 inside on a weeknight — which means arriving early, spending at the themed food stands, and browsing the night’s exclusive merchandise along the way. The promotion isn’t the closing act. It’s the magnet.
