Rafael Devers Hits 30 Home Runs With the Giants — His Third 30-HR Season in MLB

Rafael Devers hit his 30th home run on August 31, 2026 — a milestone the Giants celebrated on their official account and one that closes the book on any doubt about whether his power made the trip from Boston to San Francisco. It did. In his first full season with the Giants, the numbers back it up completely.

The Same Power He Always Had

Devers didn’t come to the Bay Area to reinvent himself. He came to keep being Devers — and the Statcast data confirms he’s doing exactly that. His average exit velocity sits at 92.8 mph, landing him in the 95th percentile across all of MLB. Virtually no one in the big leagues makes consistent hard contact at that level.

His hard-hit rate tells the same story: 50.5% of his batted balls leave the bat above 95 mph — 92nd percentile in the league. Roughly one out of every two balls Devers puts in play has the velocity to do serious damage.

With that kind of contact profile, 30 home runs and 79 RBI in 138 games aren’t a fluke. They’re not a product of friendly parks or a hot streak. They’re what happens when an elite power hitter shows up to work every day.

What the Home Runs Don’t Hide

His .813 OPS is solid — a legitimate lineup contributor on any roster. But the Statcast numbers also point to a gap that’s worth acknowledging. Devers’ xwOBA of .330 puts him at the 62nd percentile — above average, but well below where someone with his raw power should be producing.

The issue is contact consistency. With 150 strikeouts in 582 plate appearances, Devers ranks in the bottom quarter of the league in both whiff rate (25th percentile) and strikeout percentage (21st percentile). When he doesn’t get the pitch he’s looking for, he goes down swinging more often than not — and that chips away at his .251 batting average and limits what his power can actually deliver.

His xBA at the 22nd percentile reinforces the point: based on the quality of his contact, he should be hitting for a higher average than he is. The gap between his physical power and his cumulative production is the most honest diagnosis of his first full season in the Bay.

Why the Giants Aren’t Worried

Thirty home runs and nearly 80 RBI in a first full season with a new team aren’t numbers to panic over. They’re numbers to build on. Devers’ xSLG sits at the 78th percentile — top quartile in expected slugging — which means his power profile has significantly more to give if he sharpens his contact.

At 29 years old, he heads into September with a clean milestone and a profile that suggests the machine is running well, just not yet at full speed. His 61 walks (60th percentile in BB%) show he’s not a free-swinger chasing everything — there’s plate discipline behind the bat.

September means the Giants are pushing for position in the standings. And Devers, with the most dangerous power bat in the lineup, has every reason to go well past number 30.

The Numbers Behind the Milestone

  • Plate appearances: 582
  • Home runs: 30 | RBI: 79
  • AVG: .251 | OPS: .813
  • xwOBA: .330 (62nd percentile)
  • Avg exit velocity: 92.8 mph (95th percentile)
  • Hard-hit rate: 50.5% (92nd percentile)
  • Barrel rate: 11.1%
  • Avg bat speed: 71.9 mph
  • Strikeouts: 150 (21st percentile in K%)
  • Walks: 61 (60th percentile in BB%)
  • xSLG percentile: 78th

The Dominican slugger is leaving a real mark on Statcast’s leaderboards. And in baseball, the numbers — not the opinions — are what validate the greats.
