2026 World Series Preview: Brewers vs. Rays, Two Franchises Still Chasing Their First Title
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The 2026 World Series opens Friday, October 23 at American Family Field in Milwaukee — a ballpark that has never hosted a Fall Classic game — and the headline writes itself: neither team has ever won a championship. The Brewers (103-59 in the regular season) welcome the Rays (98-64), two small-market clubs that knocked off the heavyweights and now get to settle it in October.

How They Got Here

Milwaukee didn’t stumble into this. The Brewers finished with the best record in all of baseball, then swept the defending back-to-back champion Dodgers in four games in the NLCS — closing it out in Los Angeles with a 4-0 comeback in Game 4. This wasn’t a fluke; it was the best team in the league doing what it does every night.

Tampa Bay’s road was tighter. The Rays needed six games to get past the Cleveland Guardians in the ALCS, and the moment that sealed it was a Junior Caminero two-run home run in Game 6. This is Tampa’s third World Series appearance (2008, 2020, 2026) and they’re still looking for their first ring. For Milwaukee, it’s only the franchise’s second trip to the Fall Classic — the first since 1982, when they lost to the Cardinals in seven games.

American Family Field is hosting a World Series game for the first time in its history. The last time Milwaukee saw October baseball was at County Stadium, 44 years ago.

The Subplot You Can’t Ignore: Caminero vs. Chourio

Both teams are built around a 22-year-old cornerstone, and watching them go head-to-head is the most compelling storyline of the series.

  • Junior Caminero (Rays) 🇩🇴 — finished the regular season hitting .276 with 42 home runs and 101 RBI, then proved big moments don’t rattle him by delivering the series-clinching blast in the ALCS.
  • Jackson Chourio (Brewers) 🇻🇪 — batted .291 with 25 home runs and 23 stolen bases, and enters the World Series as Milwaukee’s all-time postseason leader in both home runs and RBI.

Pitching and the Bullpen Nobody Is Talking About Enough

On the mound, Milwaukee is leaning on Jacob Misiorowski — a starter who touches triple digits — and Logan Henderson. Tampa Bay counters with Drew Rasmussen and Freddy Peralta, who, in a nice twist, are both former Brewers.

The quietest weapon in this series might be Milwaukee’s bullpen, which posted a 1.33 ERA and a .472 OPS allowed across the eight postseason games leading up to the World Series. That’s not a bullpen — that’s a wall.

Odds and the Underdog Story

Sportsbooks favor Milwaukee at -160, with Tampa Bay at +140. If the Rays pull this off, they would match the 1991 Minnesota Twins as the biggest preseason underdog to win an MLB title — Tampa Bay opened the year at 80-to-1.

How and When to Watch

  • Game 1: Friday, October 23 — 8 p.m. ET
  • Spanish TV: FOX Deportes (full series); Univision (Game 1, free over-the-air)
  • Spanish radio: TUDN Radio
  • Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) shift to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida

Both venues have roofs — Tropicana’s is fixed, American Family Field’s is retractable — so rain delays shouldn’t be an issue. A full World Series played under a roof would be something MLB has never seen before, though whether Milwaukee’s roof stays closed will depend on local weather conditions each night.

The big markets are watching from their couches this October. The Fall Classic belongs to Milwaukee and Tampa Bay — and it’s going to be worth every inning.
