Saul Teran: The Venezuelan Reliever Making Noise in the Phillies System
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Saul Teran is a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher from Caracas, Venezuela, working his way through the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Born on March 20, 2002, Teran has been building his résumé across multiple minor league levels while staying sharp every winter in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) with the Caribes de Anzoátegui.

Quick Facts

  • Full name: Saul Teran
  • Position: Pitcher (Relief)
  • Bats / Throws: Right / Right
  • Height / Weight: 6’1″ / 165 lbs
  • Born: March 20, 2002 — Caracas, Venezuela 🇻🇪
  • Winter team: Caribes de Anzoátegui (LVBP, 2026-27)
  • Number: 88

Background

Teran is a product of Caracas baseball who signed with the Phillies and has climbed through their minor league ladder, logging time at both High-A and Double-A since 2025. He’s one of those guys who never really stops pitching — when the affiliated season ends, he heads back to Venezuela and keeps competing. That constant exposure to different hitters and game situations is shaping him into a well-rounded reliever.

Professional Career

Teran’s best stretch in affiliated ball came in 2025 with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (High-A): 22 appearances, a 1.38 ERA, and 23 strikeouts across 26.0 innings. Those are the kind of numbers that get attention. He also made three appearances at Double-A with the Reading Fightin Phils that year, posting a 2.08 ERA in 4.1 innings.

In 2026, Teran returned to High-A and was nearly untouchable in two outings — 4.0 innings, zero runs, and an eye-popping 9 strikeouts (ERA 0.00). His promotion back to Double-A told a different story: 29 appearances, a 6.98 ERA, and 37 strikeouts in 40.0 innings. It’s a familiar growing pain at that level, and it doesn’t erase what he showed at High-A.

Winter Ball (LVBP)

Teran has been a reliable arm for the Caribes de Anzoátegui in the LVBP. In the 2024-25 season he made 17 appearances, going 1-0 with a 3.66 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. This winter (2026-27) he’s been even sharper: 4 appearances, 2 saves, a 2.70 ERA, and 4 strikeouts in 3.1 innings. The saves role is new — and it fits.

Career Stats — LVBP

  • 2026-27 · Caribes de Anzoátegui: 4 G | 2.70 ERA | 0-0 | 2 SV | 4 K | 3.1 IP
  • 2024-25 · Caribes de Anzoátegui: 17 G | 3.66 ERA | 1-0 | 0 SV | 12 K | 19.2 IP

Why He’s Worth Watching

Teran is the kind of prospect whose development you track through both seasons — US and Caribbean. His 1.38 ERA at High-A wasn’t a fluke, and his winter numbers show a pitcher who keeps refining his craft. If he can iron out the Double-A struggles, the Phillies have a legitimate bullpen option on their hands.
